NERDTOOLS / DOMAIN DIAGNOSTICS

DEVELOPER WORKFLOW / REST + JSON

DNS lookup API, ready for production workflows.

Query structured A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, NS, TXT, SRV, SOA, PTR, and CAA records without maintaining resolver response parsing.

Current programmatic coverage: The Free and Pro developer plans expose the same diagnostic catalog. Plans differ by quota and rate limits.

01 /

Choose the record family explicitly.

Request the record type the workflow needs and receive normalized data without scraping resolver output.

  • Resolve IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
  • Inspect aliases, nameservers, and zone authority.
  • Retrieve mail routing and service-discovery records.
  • Read TXT verification and policy values.

02 /

Preserve DNS uncertainty.

A DNS response is a cached, time-bound observation. Applications should distinguish an empty answer, an unavailable name, a validation error, and a temporary upstream failure.

  • Store the observation time and returned TTL context.
  • Do not treat ANY as a complete zone inventory.
  • Retry transient errors without turning absence into success.
  • Use dedicated SPF, DMARC, DKIM, and DNSSEC diagnostics when raw records are not enough.

FAQ /

Operational detail.

Can I evaluate the API for free?

Yes. The free plan supports evaluation and small workflows with the same endpoint catalog as Pro.

Can the API access private infrastructure?

No. Targets are validated and restricted to public hosts and public network destinations.

Are REST and MCP separate products?

They share the same account, API key, diagnostic capabilities, and quota model.
